The Harlequin Goes Digital
The Harlequin Theatre & Cinema will be taking the step into the new age of film viewing by installing a new digital.
With investment from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, The Harlequin’s Waller Cinema will wave goodbye to its Cinemeccanica Victoria 5 35mm cinema projector and welcome a SONY SRX-R515, which will generate improved sound and picture quality for the 100 seat cinema.
The Harlequin Cinema was opened in September 1997 by Jenny Agutter and Mayor Councilor Mrs Mary Waller and was later renamed in April 2010 as The Waller Cinema, in tribute to Honorary Alderman Mary and Eddie Waller for their support of The Harlequin. The Waller Cinema is an intimate venue offering a friendly atmosphere and saw 19,000 people come to see a variety of films – including adventure, action, comedy and drama last year and the opportunity to buy ice creams, confectionary and a variety of drinks.
Alongside regular screenings, The Harlequin will be offering customers the opportunity to see the latest releases in subtitles, audio described as well as their popular Baby Club and Saturday Morning Cinema screenings. Theatre Manager, Elizabeth Smith says, ‘We are very excited to be installing the new projector. The investment will mean that we can continue to screen the latest releases and meet the needs of a wider audience with subtitled and audio described screenings. We hope our customers are looking forward to embracing the new digital world at The Harlequin!’
